Greetings, beautiful souls! Time to get real about something that’s been floating around in the emotional ether: the difference between being an empath and being empathetic. We all know empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of others, honey, there’s a major difference when it comes to how people experience it.
Empaths are like emotional sponges, blotting paper, a porous rock or spa towel. They absorb everyone’s energy, feeling others’ emotions so deeply that it can be exhausting. It’s not just about understanding someone’s pain, they live it alongside them. On the other hand, empathetic people are more like emotional observers. They can connect with what others are feeling, but they maintain a healthy boundary and don’t let those emotions take over.
Why does this matter? In a world that’s not at all about emotional awareness, knowing whether you’re an empath or just empathetic can transform your relationships, self-care, and how you show up for others. And let’s not forget about discerning spirits and testing them, which we talked about in a previous blog post. It’s so important to protect your energy and be mindful of the emotional environments you step into.
And here’s the 411, next week, we’re continuing our Narcissist vs. Empath series, where we’ll dig into how these dynamics play out in real life. So stay tuned, grab your favorite tea, and let’s keep this juicy convo going!
The Empath – Feeling Beyond the Surface

Empaths absorb emotions deeply from movies, womb of others, prostate of others, sexual intercourse, energetic cording, music, and chaotic environments, often feeling overwhelmed. They may be told they're overthinking or find others unloading burdens onto them, leaving them depleted. This sensitivity is a gift, attracting various spirits, entities, beings, etc. Empaths have a spiritual mission to be a light in darkness and must recognize their authority. They are meant to intercede for others, not share burdens.
Understanding their sensitivity helps protect their energy. When you begin to house the emotions you are picking up from others as your own, you are doing a disservice to your path. It is so important that you know where you begin and end and where others begin. This keeps empaths from falling into soul-tie traps, overstaying their assigned welcome in a workplace, handing over their destiny, dimming their light to allow others to shine, trauma entrapments, and physiological and psychological manipulations that are shunned upon in the spiritual realms.
The Empathetic – Understanding Without Absorbing

Let that ho know and let that shit go! Empaths tend to yearn for connections to others whom they deem as on their level. I'm here to tell you from personal experience over and over again, it's tiring. There are more people who are empathetic than empathic, which can be confusing to someone with a heart of gold like you. Empathetic people relate emotionally but maintain boundaries. They feel compassion without being overwhelmed. In spiritual terms, they can offer support without being energetically drained, corded, or emotionally bombarded.
We've all been to some type of healthcare facility, so let's use caregivers and medical practitioners as an example. Over the years, I've had some pretty shifty experiences, and let me tell you, the ability to discern and ask to be rescheduled is a must-do to protect yourself in this day and age. Do you know the difference between an empathic medical professional and an empathetic one?
There are plenty of empathic medical practitioners, like the one who pushed for me to have an emergency C-section because she felt sorry for me carrying such a huge alien in my tiny body; it was wonderful, darling, simply marvelous! You could see and feel her sense of urgency in the matter, and she used her authority in the medical realm to make things happen.
Then we have the empathetic medical practitioners. They understand all the rules and bedside manner based on their textbooks but fail to have compassion and genuine care where it matters most. That one time I had a general anesthesia non-surgical procedure that left me dizzy, in pain, and lost in space. That lady went from "let's help you through all the steps" to "got the money, bye." Discernment. Although I was young and she could have pushed me down the hall or into the lobby, I was pushed outside to the curb. I had some of the best insurance too. Ho!
Discerning Spirits – Protecting Your Energy

Over the years, I've incorporated this into my readings and teachings for the sake of the greater good in different ways so that you may run different plays. Testing spirits and discerning emotional energy help both empaths and empathetic people stay grounded. Protecting your energy through spiritual practices ensures healthier, balanced interactions. You will learn who is for you and who is not; you will learn the difference in gatekeeping your energy vs. a free-for-all that will leave you questioning yourself when things go left.
People who feel beyond the veil are highly sought after and are a commodity to plenty and are disposable to many. This is why I encourage you to learn to discern spirits and ask for guidance from your Star Player at all times. Try not to make a decision without guidance from something that sees all angles and dimensions to do with you and wants the best for you. This is the difference between 3D living and 5D shining. People who are disconnected from their spiritual attributes are more likely to be of this world. Alright, don't get me started. I digress, cut the cord or stop feeding it.
Once you discern the connection/spirit you have with NOUNS, it's time to determine what to do. Cutting the cord, stopping the energetic flow, unplugging from the source of the connection, or whatever you want to call it. We have so many cords with different NOUNS that if you were to view your etheric body, you would witness how Medusa-esque you appear in that realm.
You're still sexy, but it's giving too much going on.
What Are Your Thoughts?

There is so much information out there, and in no way could I cover all the points in one post. Please go back to previous posts you are drawn to and have a gander or two. We must keep it together for the betterment of those to come. Remember, we're here to shine bright, not to allow the feeding of our light to others for their benefit, and if the shoe fits, buy a matching outfit and rock it!
I’d love to hear your thoughts, beautiful souls! Did this blog help you see the difference between an empath and an empathetic person in a new light?
